THE National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission's Director of Administration, Barrister Chukwu Emeka Agbo, Friday morning died in a motor accident that occurred at Anini village, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
A witness said the accident happened when a Toyota Camry car with registration number GF 404 ABC veered off the road and crashed into a ditch, killing the director instantly.
The late director was travelling to the east before the incident happened.
Yangoji Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Abdullahi Umar, while confirming the accident, attributed its cause to speed violation, saying the corpse has been deposited at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital's Morgue at Gwagwalada.
In a related development, five persons also lost their lives, while four others sustained serious injuries Saturday morning in another accident that occurred at Gada-Biyu village, along the same road.
Sources at the scene of the crash said three persons died instantly at the scene, while two others later died at Kwali General Hospital, after they were conveyed to the hospital by an FRSC rescue team.
Our reporter who arrived the accident scene at 6.13 am counted about 28 dead donkeys, while two human corpses were covered with grasses as FRSC officials were busy removing a trapped truck driver.
An eyewitness said the accident happened at about 4 am when a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number XF 774 DKA loaded with donkeys wrongly overtook and collided with another truck with registration number FX 962 ABC that was carrying bags of cement.
"The Mercedes Benz truck which was coming from Gwagwalada axis overtook dangerously and collided with another truck coming from Abaji, while a Jetta car also rammed into the truck from behind," a witness said.
The FRSC unit commander blamed the accident cause on the driver of the truck carrying donkeys, who he said drove dangerously.
"The corpse has been taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital's Morgue, while four injured person were rushed to Kwali General Hospital.
He further disclosed that six persons were also injured in another accident that happened on Thursday evening at Piri village, when a Nissan Pick- up van with registration number IS 03 KB collided with a Toyota Hilux Van with registration number XA 597 ZRM.
He said the injured are responding to treatment at Kwali General Hospital.
