Another aviation disaster has been averted following an incident on an Aero Contractor's flight from Port-Harcourt to Lagos.
Passengers had to be evacuated from the b737-500 when smoke was detected in the aircraft's cabin shortly after landing at the Murtala Mohammed airport on Sunday evening.
All 84 passengers including an infant, as well as five crew members were taken to safety.
The management of Aero Contractors Nigerian Limited in a statement issued on Sunday night after the incident said: "An incident occurred this evening on flight AJ 320 from Port Harcourt to Lagos when a smoke was detected in the cabin.
"Aero was able to successfully evacuate all 84 passengers, an infant and five crew members as the B737-500 aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International airport, Lagos at 6.15 pm local time.
"The airline with officials of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authorities has been invited to investigate the cause of the incident."
It can be recalled that a few months ago, another Aero Contractors plane flying from Abuja to Lagos on a Sunday morning had a close mishap courtesy of bad weather.
