English is perhaps the most elastic and adaptable of all languages and because it's already spoken in so many different countries, at least as a second language, it's well-placed to be the 'common denominator' of global communication. On the other hand, while Mandarin Chinese may well be spoken by a greater percentage of the world's population. ANd ofcourse it's really necessary for us to learn .
