The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has vowed to continue with the ongoing strike which started since December laste year, 2011 until all the demands are met.

Speaking with newsmen on a telephone interview, and wired to myschoolcomm, the ASUU president accused the government of spreading propaganda in view that the body will call off the strike. He insisted that the government was trying to elude the demand of proper funding for the universities. While praising the senate for passing the bill to increase the retirement age of lecturers from 65 to 70 years, he noted that the bill is still waiting for the president's approval to pass it into law.

Default The Cabal behind ASUU strike – Rivers Varsity VC

ASUU strike is like a cycle in the country. There is hardly any year since 1996 that lecturers had not gone on strike. Sometimes, they tag it warning , indefinite, etc strike. Now we have the cabal, lol.

At the moment, they have been on strike since December last year and they code named it Indefinite and Total strike. Students, parents and guardians are usually the most affected by this disruption in the academic calendar. A four year-programme in some cases because of the incessant strike today runs for about six to seven years. But who is to blame? Is it government or the lecturers?

In this interview Vice Chancellor, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Prof Barineme Fakae bares his mind on the issue. He describes the strike culture on the part of lecturers as unfortunate.

What bunch of conflicting, confusing and antagonizing reportage! Just look at the procession. Well, I just thank God that ASUU finally regained their first sense. I don't know what sort of media industry operates in my countrỳ. It's a pity.
