Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio has commended the federal government for setting up a dedicated team to drive the revival of basic education in the country.

Akpabio who spoke while receiving the minister of state for education, Barr. Nyesom Wike at the Government House, Uyo, noted that the nation has witnessed unparalleled progress in enhancing the quality of basic education available to the less privileged in the last one year.

The governor said that the federal government under President Jonathan has ensured a working partnership with states to develop the nation, pointing out that the free distribution of books to Nigerian children and the capacity building for teachers across the country was two of such programmes.

He appealed to the Akwa Ibom State government to collaborate with the federal ministry of education to increase the in-take of students at the Federal Science and Technical College, Uyo. He said as the only girls only technical college in Nigeria, in-take in the school has been below par.
