The Bayero University Kano-(BUK) has announced a list of 87 students which the university expelled. This announcement was made of recent following various cases of examination malpractices. These students were from the faculties of Art and Islamic Studies, Education, Social and Management Science and Technology.
In a release, the Registrar noted that the verdict was in accordance with the provision of Section 1B (I) Ė1B (VII) of the university senateís guidelines on examination malpractice. In another development, the senate also rusticated 17 students and sent a last warning to some others. Two students from the faculty of Science were exonerated for an undisclosed reason.
Meanwhile, the announcement came alongside the invitation of seven ex- officials (EXCO) of the Students Union Government (SUG) to answer various charges against them.
The student leaders served the SUG in the 2008/2009 session. According to our source, they were indicted by the Students Representatives Assembly( SRA) that preceeded them which investigated their tenure.
The major charge against the ex officials is related with the management of the unionís funds. Those accused include Garba Ikunya, ex-president; Aish Ummi Ali, ex-treasurer; Alkasim K. Hassan, ex-financial secretary; Alkasim Baba, ex-sports director; Auwalu Aminu, ex-deputy parliamentary secretary (DPS) and Musa S. Maigogul who was the speaker.
