Women are forming the backbone of a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Nigeria
Facebook has launched a women entrepreneurship initiative, #SheMeansBusiness, in Nigeria, in partnership with She Leads Africa.
The Sales Manager, Small and Medium Business, Facebook EMEA, Abi Williams, said the initiative was designed to inspire and train female entrepreneurs across the country to build, grow and start their own businesses, and also create opportunities for would-be entrepreneurs in Nigeria to meet and learn from others.
According to Williams, a recent study conducted by Development Economics on behalf of Facebook, estimated that businesses set up by women in Nigeria over the next five years hold the key to unlocking N19.7bn for the economy and the opportunity of creating a further 8.9 million additional jobs.
“With the number of new women-owned small business pages on Facebook increasing by 319 per cent between 2016 and 2017, women are forming the backbone of a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Nigeria,” Abi stated.
