How To Make Money Producing Fuel in Your Backyard

80% of most companies profits are consumed by diesel and most of these companies do not run on PHCN. The lingering black out has made some small businesses to fold up. The good news is expenses on diesel can be saved to the barest minimum because you can now produce fuel in your home.
The fuel which is called bio-diesel, you will be producing is economical and it releases CO2 which goes back to the soil to enrich it. It also produces less noise with generators.

But what is Bio-diesel? Bio-diesel is a clean burning alternative to petroleum diesel made from domestic renewable resources such as vegetable oil, recycled cooking oil and animal fats. Bio-diesel can also be extracted from the algae plant you see in stagnant waters around your neighborhood and also from soya beans and jatropah plant. Sun flower and Palm kernel oil are good sources for Bio-diesel.

What are the benefits of Bio-diesel?
Bio diesel reduces nearly all forms of air pollution compared to petroleum diesel. It reduces toxic contaminants and cancer causing compounds and reduces the soot associated with diesel exhaust.

Bio diesel also reduces green house gases which contribute to global warming. It produces 78% less CO2 than petroleum diesel. Bio-diesel produces 3.2 units of energy for every unit of energy used in production. In contrast, diesel fuel produces on .89 units of energy for every unit of energy used in production.

It is non-toxic and it is biodegradable. You will note that it reduces dependence on imported fuel thereby encouraging the use of domestic, renewable sources of energy, which also improves the nation’s energy security fuel.

In operation, in your generator, the bio-diesel doesn’t stain your white handkerchief when placed in front of the exhaust. That shows how clean a bio-diesel can be. And it is also environmentally friendly, because when you even place your eyes close to the engine, you won’t blink.

Bio diesel runs on any kind of diesel engine used in companies, industries, churches, homes, etc. and even cars that run on diesel.

The Raw materials needed for production of bio-diesel are vegetable oils, straight vegetable oil, waste vegetable oil, and animal fat.

Now you know what Bio-diesel is. Then how can you start producing it in your home and start making thousands of naira daily?

The Step-by-step guide to producing bio-diesel.

First take note of the materials needed for the production of bio-diesel which are Methanol (200ml), Isopropyl alcohol (needed when you are using vegetable oil), Lye-KOH (4.8g) and NaOH, 1 liter of vegetable oil, Pot, Stove, Goggles, Nose Mask, Hand gloves and Standby water.

Step 1: Measure 200ml of methanol using measuring cylinder into the white plastic. Lye is then measured quickly into the 200ml of methanol. Mix vigorously while the lid of the plastic is well tight.

Step 2: Measure 1 liter of vegetable oil (unused) into the pot for heating. Heat the oil to 600oC. Then transfer the oil into the blender.

Step 3: While the blender is off, pour the mixture of methanol and lye into the blender containing the oil. Switch on the blender for mixing and allow 30 to 45 minutes for thorough mixing.

You have your bio-diesel ready. But keep it to decant in a bottle for about 8 hours. You will then see a glycerin at the bottom and your bio-diesel at the top. The glycerin though, is not a waste because it is needed in the cosmetic and soap industry. Just pour the bio-diesel to work your engine once you have separated the glycerin from it.

The cost of producing diesel into a five liter keg would depend on the kind of oil you are using. The algae plant is the best source of non edible oil for this project. An average cost of 30 liters of normal vegetable oil will cost N2500, at retail price. Wholesale prices can be lower though. You will need five liters of methanol otherwise called ogogoro that you can easily get for around N300. Also the lye of sodium and potassium base is relatively cheap to buy. At the end of production, you can have 35 to 45 liters of final product.

You can then sell the bio-diesel at a cheap rate between N50 – N90 depending on how cheap your source of raw vegetable oil is.

The bio-diesel once produced is readily and can be immediately sold on the spot, so the wealth is just by your side.

Note you can sell the bio-diesel anywhere in Nigeria.

This concept is from Grine World Limited in Ojodu area of Lagos, and they produce in commercial quantities.
