A large tropical wave emerging from Africa has a 40% chance of becoming the Atlantic's next tropical depression or tropical storm over the next 5 days as it heads west. "Earl" is the next name on the Atlantic hurricane list. Elsewhere, no tropical development is expected in the Atlantic basin.

Meanwhile, Frank continues to swirl in the eastern Pacific. Another tropical depression or storm could form within the next 5 days, but it is not expected to impact land.

After a fast start to the hurricane season, the Atlantic basin has been very quiet the past several weeks. Keep in mind the majority of hurricane activity in the Atlantic occurs between August 15th and October 15th.
