Nigerian Football Federation was thrown into mourning on New Year day following the death of former Enyimba International goalkeeper, Chinedu Agwu, who was pronounced dead after a protracted illness. According to reports, the 29-year-old goalkeeper died few hours into the New Year, after a long battle to keep his life. Agwu, who was also a former Kaduna United goalkeeper, is the second Nigerian player to die in less than five days after the death of former Nasarawa United captain, Baba Idris occurred. The deceased​ made waves while at Kaduna United but was denied first team opportunity​ after ​an​ ambitious move to Enyimba. Late Agwu was known to be great penalty kick stopper, a quality which earned him a call-up to the Super Eagles in 2010.
