Severalexplosions have rocked Maiduguri, the capital of northeast Borno state, two hours before polls opened in presidential and legislative elections after a week-long delay.
Residents of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, are currently in panic as series of explosions have rocked the city all within ten minutes. The explosions, seven of them, which occurred at 05:00 GMT on Saturday, sent residents of Maiduguri fleeing for safety.
Residents are worried about their safety, especially with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled to begin in less than two hours.
“Shortly after prayers, we heard seven blasts. Nobody knows what is going on. This is really unfortunate because it will make some people not go out today to vote,” a witness identified as Jubril Abdulrahman said. “We are all in our homes and waiting to find out what exactly is going on,” Abdulrahman said.
