Nigeria lost their first match of the tournament 0–2 to Croatiain Kaliningrad, before they won 2–0 in the second match against Iceland, with Ahmed Musa scored both goals. and had a huge chance to qualify as Argentina was demolished 0–3 by Croatia. Despite this advantage, they lost 1–2 in the last match against Argentina, with one goal by Victor Moses. For this defeat, and followed with Iceland’s defeat to Croatia, Nigeria had not just missed the opportunity, but also got eliminated from the tournament.
