Gusau – The Zamfara State government has spent N174 million on the payment of West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) fees for students in the state.
A statement by the Information Officer of the state’s Ministry of Education, Isa Ibrahim Maru, said the gesture was part of government’s efforts at boosting education in the state. He added that out of N174 million, N81.750 million was paid as WAEC fees for 2010 while N92 million was paid as NECO fees.
Maru further said that, an additional N30 million was paid to NECO as outstanding payment for the 2009 examination.
He also said that over 15,000 students sat for the 2010 NECO and WAEC examinations in the state.
